Quick Tips to Remedy Anxiety

Jul 25, 2024

We need an anxiety remedy now more than ever.

These are crazy days. There’s so much weighing on us all: the presidential election here in the US, racism, sexism, poverty, natural disasters, and a global pandemic.

The tension is so high It could cause even the most confident, even-tempered person to feel anxious, which left unchecked can cause all sorts of health concerns and perpetuate lack of sleep, poor diet choices, and regretted, fear-based responses.

We need to be able to recognize that we are anxious and then take action to release it from the body. Anxiety can feel overwhelming, nervous, restless or tense. You can feel a sense of impending danger, panic or doom.

If this is you, you are not alone. I feel it too. It’s really hard to witness the struggles we are currently in. We are all connected and we feel it now more than ever. I strongly believe we have to learn how to reduce anxiety to help the body maintain good health.

Anxiety is a product of the mind. Like stress, it’s created by our thoughts about a given situation. When there is an immediate danger, the fight or flight is there to cause us to take action and change the situation; but when we can’t change the situation, anxiety begins to grow.

We have to first recognize that we are feeling anxious.

That means checking in with your body in an inquisitive way randomly throughout the day. What am I feeling? When you recognize that you’re feeling anxious or on edge. Go inside and give it a number from 1 – 10. Then, try one of the recommendations below for 10 minutes, then reassess.

Here are my top 3 recommendations to reduce anxiety:

  1.  Emotional Freedom Technique. This is a technique of tapping the meridian pathways, while talking about what causes the anxiety and coming to peace with it. It works within minutes to bring peace to a difficult situation in your mind. The hardest part about tapping is remembering to do it when you need it. You’ll likely want to do this in private.
  2.   The Relaxation Response by Herbert Benson, M.D. elicits the parasympathetic nervous system in order to calm mind and body.
  3.   Nerve calming herbs. There are a variety of herbal remedies like oat seed, valerian, chamomile, kava, lavender, passion flower, and lemon balm that can calm the nervous system. To take in tincture form, add the label prescribed number of drops to 4 ounces of water and drink.

Cheers to Health in body and mind.
